Fatal fire cost millions to fight: DEC
Authorities have revealed a fire in the Boorabbin National Park on the Goldfields, which killed three truck drivers is costing ten of millions of dollars to fight.
The fire began burning more than two weeks ago and has burnt 40,000 hectares of bush.
The blaze also blocked a major highway linking Western Australia and the eastern states for ten days.
The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) is adding up the cost to the numerous agencies and utilities affected by the fire.
The Department's Ian Kealley says it will take several months to get an exact figure.
"There are some preliminary figures floating around, I mean the cost of suppression alone would have been around $2 million," he said.
Overnight the Department declared the fire safe.
The last of the fire crews have now returned home but the Department says post-fire management will continue for months.
